Food For Your Soul

“When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, LORD God Almighty” ~ Jeremiah 15:16.

Have you ever craved a specific food so badly that you stopped whatever you were doing to get it, even if you had to go shopping? After eating it, did your craving diminish? I believe it is safe to say everyone has heard the term “soul food;” which is often used as comfort food. For example, in addition to being delicious it comforts us when depressed, bored, lonely, idle or seeing it in commercials.

I lived in Montgomery, Alabama for 40 years before relocating to Florida in 2008; and one of the things I missed was delicious mouth-watering well-seasoned soul food even though yielding never satisfied my craving.

Are You S.A.L.T?

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men ~ Matthew 5:13.

Surely everyone knows salt is a food preservative and also enhances flavor in food. “It is recommended to consume no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium a day which is slightly more than one teaspoon of salt.” Despite health warnings the average consumption is at least twice the recommended daily intake.

Today’s topic is about spiritual S.A.L.T? In July, I was afforded an opportunity to speak at Legrand Church of Christ Women’s Day Program in Montgomery, Alabama. Their theme was “S.A.L.T.” (Sisters Abiding in Light and Truth). This is a great theme to dig deeper in the Bible to understand the importance of Christian women being light in a dark world.
