Introducing Deacon Joe Nichols and his lovely wife Nicki. Joe grew up in the Roanoke area of Virginia and obeyed the gospel when he was just a boy. At that time, he and his family attended Lake Drive church of Christ. After graduating high school, Joe attended Freed-Hardeman University where he met his future wife Nicki Savage.
Brother Bell obeyed the gospel in 1979, and was baptized by Brother Oscar Mcbryer at Westside Church of Christ in Chiefland, Florida. He was under the teaching of Brother Alan Drayton and Matthew Moore; two pioneer preachers. He later started worshiping and leading songs at Westside Church of Christ under Minister Michael Dockery.
Gene Morgan is the minister at Melrose Church of Christ in Melrose, Florida. My husband was hospitalized in 2019, and Gene visited and prayed for us. It was our first time meeting him but the visit was enjoyed with laughter and friendly and spiritual conversations. He also kindly delivered a book titled “Muscle and a Shovel” by Michael J. Shank; a gift to me from his lovely wife.
Under the teaching of Brother Arthur Goins, Don Jr., and Gertha Dickerson simultaneously obeyed the gospel of Jesus Christ during a Bible study class; and they were baptized at Springhill Church of Christ on May 13, 1964.
On November 18, 1982, five sisters from two congregations in Montgomery, Alabama met to organize a city-wide sisters’ group from various Church of Christ congregations. The initial meeting was held at the home of the late Sister Frances Robinson. During that meeting, a pledge was made to put forth efforts to gain membership and support throughout the sisterhood and brotherhood. They made a vow for the group to continue in existence while simultaneously creating a bond of love and unity among members.
“The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste [not chased], keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.” –Titus 2:3-5
I was asked why do I hang out with older women. I did it in Montgomery, Alabama, and I am still doing it in Gainesville, Florida. My response is the women pictured in this blog have a wealth of history, knowledge and wisdom who willingly share it with me. Their obedience to Titus 2:3-5 is commendable and beneficial to my life—spiritual and personal. I am thankful for opportunities to visit, talk, sing, pray and dine with these women to hear their fascinating stories. Lord willing, in 2020, I plan to continue ingesting their wisdom. Sometimes, when they are reminiscing, I sit and observe how their clothing, behavior, speech and even their body language are all in obedience to God’s word.Continue reading “My Life With Impactful Christian Women”
Godly spiritual mothers love God and they show love to everyone who is blessed to cross their paths. Spiritual mothers often go unnoticed and without praise—not that they are seeking it; they are just humble women. But I am sharing with the world the love and appreciation that I have for my Montgomery, Alabama spiritually nourished mothers: Sisters Chenita Mathews, Essie Carr and Thelma Powell.Continue reading “The Influence Of Godly Spiritual Mothers”
“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy [Spirit] which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” – I Corinthians 6:19-20Continue reading “The Temple of the Holy Spirit”
