Spiritual Pruning! How Deeply Planted and Rooted Are We In God’s Word?

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” (John 15:1-2)

“Etiquette Tips” for Christian Facebook Users

Written By Emily Post

Don’t gossip. The rules of the tongue apply to the keyboard as well. Give care that what you say is true as well as helpful. If James were to write James 3:6 today, it might read as follows, “And the keyboard is a fire, a world of iniquity…”. Lying, gossiping, stating as truth what we do not know to be true, etc. are as wrong on Facebook as they are when speaking to another face to face.

Sisters Serving In The Spirit

In 2016, two sisters in Christ, Priscilla Darling and Cindy Davis, got together to form a sisterhood with the purpose of creating a bond and unifying North Central Florida Sisters in congregations of the Church of Christ. Their mission was to work together in order to be the difference in local communities. After sending out letters describing the purpose of Sisters in Spirit (SIS) four sisters from their local congregations met over breakfast to establish SIS.

Meet Minister Kenny Gaskins and his lovely wife Helen. Brother Kenny was baptized when he was eleven years old. He worked under the leadership of many gospel preachers, including Brother Goins and Brother Ferguson. He and Brother Ferguson conducted many Bible studies for years with incarcerated men. Approximately ten years later, Brother Ferguson had confidence in Brother Gaskins to continue the prison ministry without assistance.

Minister Gene Morgan and Edith Morgan

Gene Morgan is the minister at Melrose Church of Christ in Melrose, Florida. My husband was hospitalized in 2019, and Gene visited and prayed for us. It was our first time meeting him but the visit was enjoyed with laughter and friendly and spiritual conversations. He also kindly delivered a book titled “Muscle and a Shovel” by Michael J. Shank; a gift to me from his lovely wife.

Benevolent Sisters

On November 18, 1982, five sisters from two congregations in Montgomery, Alabama met to organize a city-wide sisters’ group from various Church of Christ congregations. The initial meeting was held at the home of the late Sister Frances Robinson. During that meeting, a pledge was made to put forth efforts to gain membership and support throughout the sisterhood and brotherhood. They made a vow for the group to continue in existence while simultaneously creating a bond of love and unity among members.

My Life With Impactful Christian Women

“The aged women, likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste [not chased], keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.” –Titus 2:3-5

I was asked why I hang out with older women. I did it in Montgomery, Alabama, and I am still doing it in Gainesville, Florida. My response is the women pictured in this blog have a wealth of history, knowledge and wisdom who willingly share it with me. Their obedience to Titus 2:3-5 is commendable and beneficial to my life—spiritual and personal. I am thankful for opportunities to visit, talk, sing, pray and dine with these women to hear their fascinating stories. Lord willing, in 2020, I plan to continue ingesting their wisdom. Sometimes, when they are reminiscing, I sit and observe how their clothing, behavior, speech and even their body language are all in obedience to God’s word.

The Influence Of Godly Spiritual Mothers

Godly spiritual mothers love God and they show love to everyone who is blessed to cross their paths. Spiritual mothers often go unnoticed and without praise—not that they are seeking it; they are just humble women. But I am sharing with the world the love and appreciation that I have for my Montgomery, Alabama spiritually nourished mothers: Sisters Chenita Mathews, Essie Carr and Thelma Powell.

The Temple of the Holy Spirit

“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy [Spirit] which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” – I Corinthians 6:19-20
