Stay Away From Still People

Associate yourself with people of good quality, for it is better to be alone than in bad company.” — Booker T. Washington

Proverbs 4:16 rings truth for some people. “For they cannot rest until they do evil; and are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.” Wow!

It is sad that God’s greatest creation practice deceit against one another causing stumbling. In Ephesians 5, it states that followers of God must walk in love as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor. Our behaviors do not always give God a sweet-smelling savor but a rotten odor.

Why are we easily influenced by those “Still” doing Satan’s bidding? What attracts us to crowds of “Still” people? As children of God, we should not “Still” be caught up in “Still” gossiping, “Still” hating, “Still” backbiting, and “Still” not doing what God instructed us to do. For us who “Still” indulge in these behaviors “Still” need to read Hebrews 5:12-15 because milk, the elementary truth of God’s word, is “Still” needed because solid food is “Still” too difficult to digest for spiritual nourishment!

It took me a long time to understand if you have to walk this journey with only the Lord, you will “Still” be in the best company.

“It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead and Christ will shine on you. Be very careful, then, how you live–not as unwise but as wise making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” (Ephesians 5:12-17)

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand!” (Galatians 10-12a). Are we “Still” trying to impress people by means of the flesh rather than pleasing God by means of obedience? I, too, have disappointed God at times in my life, but I thank Him for lessons learned and life for repentance.

When “Still” people come to you about what someone said about you, tell them not to tell you what was said but asked them why they felt comfortable telling them. We must stand firm and not be influenced by those who “Still” does Satan’s bidding.

Conclusion

We must not follow “Still” people who want to keep us “Still” like them–not obeying God’s commandments. “Still” people keep us as babes depending on them straight to Hell. If we use the same energy to love one another instead of hating each other, we could be a phenomenal force against the world and wolves in sheep’s clothing.

  1. Tangie, your “Still” people sound like my “Hell-bent” people that I wrote about in my latest blog post on “Conversations With God Using Scripture”. What a coincident!

  2. Such wise words. A lot of the time we don’t even realize how we’re shaped and changed by the people around us … but we are. The choice of who we spend time with is so important.
