The Great Deceiver Is Alive

“When we play with sin, sin ends up playing us.” – Dr. Tony Evans. Now the serpent was craftier than any of the wild animals the LORD GOD had made. He said to the woman, “Did GOD really say, you must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”(Genesis 3:1)

The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but GOD did say, You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.”

“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. (Genesis 3:2-5)

Do we rationalize to justify our sin? We will get burn if food is removed from a hot oven with our bare hands, right? The painful burn is the consequence reminding us not to repeat the action. So, why is it difficult to have the same mentality when it comes to choosing not to sin for the protection of our souls? Hell will be an eternal hot oven.

“We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet He did not sin.” Hebrews 4:15

“‘GOD, You understand temptation; you know weakness. You came to the earth as a man, and you felt hunger and pain. You experienced temptation. You know my struggle; you’ve resisted the pull of comfort and sacrificed the pleasure of the fleeting in exchange for the satisfaction of eternal. You get me.

It’s such a gift, LORD, to be able to approach you not with shame, but boldly, as one trying to overcome the very things you triumphed over. You don’t judge me, though you have every right. You empathize, and you point the way past today, past my weakness, and to forever.'” Aren’t you glad GOD understands temptation and provided a way out for us?

I am striving to protect my soul from the oven of Hell. We must be vigilant of the great deceiver’s camouflage pits, landmines, quicksand, wolves in sheep clothing and other schemes used to captivate our minds. How do we combat temptation from the great deceiver? Use scriptures like Jesus and flee him.
