Associate yourself with people of good quality, for it is better to be alone than in bad company.” — Booker T. Washington

In a recent conversation with my spiritual mother Sister Copeland, she said something about still people that got my attention. What happens when still people make no movement–nothing right? The same could happen to us if surrounded by still people.
People who still gossip is one of many examples. Psalm 101:5 states “Whoever slanders their neighbor in secret, I will put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, I will not tolerate.”
God said “No one who practices deceit will dwell in My house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence.” (Psalm 101:7) Do we allow people who still practice deceit to whisper in the ears of the [house] temple of the Holy Spirit?
Can you imagine how quiet life would be if those who still complain limited their words to less than five per day? Complainers use other forms to complain such as rolling eyes, gnashing teeth and huffing and puffing. Do you know people who still have a complaining spirit? Can you share an example of how God handled people who still complained?

Many years ago, I experienced toxic and mordacious people who lived to worry, whine and brought many clouds of negativity to my life. They lived up to Proverbs 4:16 “For they cannot rest until they do evil; they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.”
I can tell you stories you would find difficult to believe. Praise God for my new life in Christ! As we mature in life, and in wisdom, knowledge and understanding of the word of God, it should be easy to seal the door to “Still People” for the sake of our sanity and for the salvation of our soul.
“I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.” (Romans 16:17)
What about the people who still profess to be devout followers of Jesus but are unempathetic, manipulative, self-absorb, proud and selfish, et cetera. Do these still people sound like narcissists who make sure we never stop hearing about them? They are so self-absorb that all attention must be on them in every waking moment and create division everywhere they go.

They will make it difficult for you when distancing yourself from them because they need an audience to hear what they have to say about themselves! You are not allowed to walk away without consequences! Some fear their consequences of narcissists with no regard of fearing consequences of disobeying God.
The are many types of still people; however, this blog will end with people who are still arrogant and always knows better about everything! They are opinionated, judgmental and dolly out rude comments without the consideration of others’ feelings.
Finally, do not mingle with people who still have a quick-temper and devises evil schemes and people who are still doing what they do best–nothing!
Love this post!🥰

This is a good post with good advice.
On a side note, fellow Sunday School teacher of mine brought in a beef tongue from the grocery store to illustrate James 1. It kept those nine and ten year olds’ interest.

My mother who is now deceased loved beef tongue. Unless it was given to me without my knowledge as a child I cannot imagine eating it now. Have a great day/night and remain safe.

Thank you Herb, I think it is good for us to remind one another of things mentioned in the blog. I sure appreciate encouragement and reminders while traveling this not so easy journey. I am sure it kept their attention and I can imagine their facial expressions. Have a great day/night and remain safe.

I have cut toxic people out of my life at times and have found it helped me have a more peaceful life. It is not easy to do but necessary at times

Thank you, Tangie. Sometimes we or our closest friends can still practice things that do not please God. Regardless of the relationship with our close friend, our relationship with God is more, much more important.

Tangie, I had to learn that once I did not make a spiritual impact on the “still” Individual that I was dealing with then yes, for sure it was time to choose my spiritual walk.

Amen. There is so much you [we} can do to help others including those who profess to be followers of Jesus. But when they are still it is time to not risk your soul’s salvation for still people. It might sound harsh but necessary. Have a great evening and remain safe.

You are welcome Mary. Toxic people can drain the life out of us if we allow them to do so. Have a wonderful day/night and remain safe.

Here is a thought Tangie. I learned early in life about what type of water to drink if you are out in nature. You never drink from still water. You look for a brook that is moving, not overly fast, but moving.
A shepherd always looks for this type of stream to lead their flock to drink.
Stagnate water is full of impurities, disease, and fungus.

You’ve done an excellent job pointing out that negative verbal input takes many forms. Thank you, Tangie, for raising our awareness of how toxic such input can be, and how easily it can slip into our conversations. May our words be life-giving water; words of true wisdom as refreshing as a bubbling brook (Proverbs 18:4).
