Enduring Pain and Suffering

Have you ever experienced severe spine injuries that required surgery? If so, how did you endure the spiritual, mental and physical pain? Did your doctors perform well? Did you have complications after your surgery? Did you have dedicated medical and family support teams?

As an outlet to share my struggles from serious injuries sustained from a work-related accident, I started blogging in 2019. In doing so I wanted to be encouraged, as well as an encourager to others living with health challenges, and who understood our struggles and suffering are real.

My spine has been sick for many years and back surgery exacerbated the pain and caused other discs movement. However, after reading about Apostle Paul’s suffering, I am encouraged not to let tribulation destroy my devotion to Christ. He stated, “Are they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk like this) I am more.’

‘I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one.’

‘Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea.'” (II Corinthians 23-25); recommend reading entire chapter.

Three times, I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, “‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.’

‘That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.'” (II Corinthians 12:8-10)

The Bible is our spiritual spine, or backbone, to support temples of the Holy Spirit. It also connects us with GOD through His Son Jesus. The spiritual spine gives us the Plan of Salvation to save ourselves from this corrupt world.

Shared by Spiritual Mother Essie Carr

The spiritual spine helps us to sit and study scriptures to grow in grace. It helps us stand up, without fear, to share the Word of GOD.

The spiritual spine tells us everything we need to know to make Heaven the home of our souls.

FINAL THOUGHT

On last Saturday sisters devotion call, Sister Carr taught a lesson from I Peter 4, titled Enduring Suffering. Her lesson was biblical sound and she reminded us Christians are not immune from suffering and there is value and purpose for suffering.

Our suffering cannot compare to the real suffering that Jesus endured upon the cross. “He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5:45)

  1. Pain and suffering takes such a toil on us all, of regardless or race, gender or economic status. I have found great comfort in the Bible passages at Revelation 21:3,4 and Isaiah 33:24. I hope you find comfort in them as well.

  2. Hi Sis Tangie
You made me desire to be apart of the meeting that Sister Carr presented. I am thankful to God for continous wisdom that Sis. Carr, has shared and passed onto you and as result, you have been obedient to God and passed on the shared and received knowledge onto to others. I will continue to pray for your health concerns to be permanently removed from your body.

  3. I totally understand about your back pain. The sister is correct in saying that Christians are not exempt from suffering.
For the first time in my life I know understand the Apostle about being content in any state you are in. When I went onto the operating table for hip replacement I was in total peace. I found I was not nervous, just a deep calm.
I have also suffered with severe back pain. I have not had surgery, I had some cortisone shots that seem to have worked.
I keep you in my prayers Tangie! Remember, you are not alone. Christ understands your suffering and He is closer than you think or feel!

  4. Thanks for your additional comments on suffering. I am happy you were on the call and was able to take away something from the lesson. Suffering is not a punishment, but a test of our faith and trust in God.

    1. Sister Carr, thank you for reading, commenting and for the great lesson you presented on last Saturday. I drafted this blog prior to hearing your lesson and was amazed when Rosalyn sent your lesson title. You provided great information that did not occur to me before hearing you. I love you, miss you and hope we can soon come home for a visit home. Please give my love to Brother Carr and the church family. Have a great night and remain safe.
