“When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you, and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony. Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive.” (Proverbs 23:1-3)
What is the first thing usually happens when you enter a restaurant? Are you greeted by someone, or waiting in lobby until someone comes to greet you?
What about when you are seated? Does a server immediately comes to your table, or does the greeter tells you a server will be with you shortly?
When your server arrives how many menus are you given? All in one; or one for appetizers, one for main courses and one for desserts? Some restaurants give you one listing only drinks.
Prior to COVID-19 pandemic Sister Dickerson, Sister Copeland and I had monthly scheduled luncheons at various restaurants. Sometimes other Titus 2 sisters joined us. One thing in particular I noticed about them is they carefully read menus giving much thought to meal selection they were about to partake.
Not me, I often selected the first meal on the menu that appealed to my eyes. If it look good then it must taste good. Yes, you guessed it! My taste buds were not pleased with my rash selection. I can imagine God’s displeasure with us when we yield to sin giving no thought to what we willingly digest into the Temple of the Holy Spirit.
Sister Dickerson and Sister Copeland’s behavior, not words, taught me to stop making rash decisions, not only when dining out, but in life. They often compliment Brother Woods’ advice to me. I am now thriving in an area I previously gave no thought to and I am very careful who I dine with; not only as a Christian, but as the wife of a very respectable minister.
In an effort to obstruct our spiritual journey, Satan greets us appealing to the eyes, using his earthly employees and their selective menus based on our weaknesses. However, he does not cause us to sin but entices us to be drawn away by our own lustful desires. Once we yield to temptations we birth our spiritual death but thank God for His grace and mercy and sacrificing His only son for remission of our sins giving us a way to repentance.
Satan and his employees do not have power over us until we make a selection from his evil menu and take a bite from the appealing presentations to disobey commandments of God. Remember Adam and Eve. Just like my taste buds were not happy with my food choices God is not pleased with our choices to enjoy sin for a moment allowing it to flow through the veins of the Temple of the Holy Spirit. We should not treat our spiritual journey like the game show Jeopardy; risking our soul’s salvation for a moment of pleasure. Be careful who you dine with!
Beware of frenemies! In one of Brother Woods recent sermons, he gave warning to women to be careful when other women suddenly want to be friends and wanting to hang around them. Perhaps it is their avenue to our husbands. Of course, this does not apply to everyone but be careful who you dine with!
When we lived in another state many years ago a group of “Christian” women got together and had dinner at a local restaurant. I recall often being interrupted by a sister asking me general questions about Brother Woods (we were dating at the time). I did not give much thought at first but then she interrupted me while I was making an important point in a conversation with other sisters. I turned around and said you sure are asking a lot of questions about Brother Woods. She replied with everyone listening “I don’t see a ring on your finger.” Again, our spiritual journey is not a competition nor a game.
Sister in Christ! Really! She showed truth all Christians are not converted and her journey was just a game. Sadly, her action was displayed in front of Christian teenagers–the very ones who need Titus 2 spiritual mothers. Satan planned that attack perfectly using a weak-minded woman to do his bidding in the presence of impressionable young Christians. Be careful who you dine with!
Let us remember to order daily from the spiritual menu which I recommend appetizers containing peas: Peace of Mind, Peace of Heart and Peace of Soul (from Facebook).
Now it is time to order the main course of squashing indifference, squashing hatred and squashing bullying (from Facebook). I added to the menu squashing gossip, insincerity, immodest apparels, tit for tat games, innuendos and all other behavior unbecoming a follower of Jesus.
From the dessert menu I suggest ordering the sweet taste of kindness, compassionate and genuine love for one another.
Remember to leave tips of watering and cultivating lives with patient, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, manners, morals respect, class, integrity and LOVE.
My final thought as the King’s daughter is to ensure my lifestyle remains as the SON light leading lost soul away from the dark world. How? Representing the LORD in words, thoughts, deeds and making disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the SON and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything He has commanded. (Matthew 28:19-20)
If it look good then it must taste good. No! That is what Satan wants us to believe. Do not wait to be greeted and served by him and false angels of light. Flee before making a rash decision to partake meals from his deadly menus.
Conclusion, “Dear friends, let us love on another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (I John 4:7-10)
“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has every seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us. This is how we know that we live in Him and He in us: He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent His Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, Go lives in them and they in God. (I John 11-15)
