Meet Minister Kenny Gaskins and his lovely wife Helen. Brother Kenny was baptized when he was eleven years old. He worked under the leadership of many gospel preachers, including Brother Goins and Brother Ferguson. He and Brother Ferguson conducted many Bible studies for years with incarcerated men. Approximately ten years later, Brother Ferguson had confidence in Brother Gaskins to continue the prison ministry without assistance.
In addition to visiting sick members and bereaved families, the brothers continued reaching out to members who were not faithful attending worship service to God. Brother Kenny was chosen to help Brother Washington, Minister of Westside Church of Christ in Trenton, Florida. After Brother Washington’s death, Brother Kenny became the minister.
Helen obeyed the gospel in 1975, under the leadership of Brother Mason. While the men were busy with their benevolent services, Helen and Sister Ferguson held Bible studies with incarcerated women. Helen is also a dedicated member of the non-profit organization Sisters in Spirit (SIS). SIS is registered through the State of Florida as a non-denominational group of sisters from various Churches of Christ congregations in the North Central Florida Fellowship.
Helen rotates teaching Women’s Bible Study at various congregations on the Fourth Friday Night of each month; studies are held in various surrounding cities.
Her favorite biblical passage is Matthew 18:21-22 “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Till seven times?” Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”
Brother Woods has known the Gaskins over 30 years, and stated “They remain who they are in the Lord and are still humble and down to earth people.” I had the pleasure of meeting them in 2008 and agree with Brother Woods.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Minister Kenny Gaskins and his lovely wife Helen. Long time Christian soldiers in the Army of the Lord.
This is an awesome endeavor, Tangie; to recognize gospel preachers. I love it! God bless you and this ministry.
