My Life With Impactful Christian Women

“The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste [not chased], keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.” –Titus 2:3-5

I was asked why do I hang out with older women. I did it in Montgomery, Alabama, and I am still doing it in Gainesville, Florida. My response is the women pictured in this blog have a wealth of history, knowledge and wisdom who willingly share it with me. Their obedience to Titus 2:3-5 is commendable and beneficial to my life—spiritual and personal. I am thankful for opportunities to visit, talk, sing, pray and dine with these women to hear their fascinating stories. Lord willing, in 2020, I plan to continue ingesting their wisdom. Sometimes, when they are reminiscing, I sit and observe how their clothing, behavior, speech and even their body language are all in obedience to God’s word.

I don’t get to see some of them much as I would like but we communicate via phone calls, text messages, Facebook messenger and WhatsApp. I really appreciate their thoughtfulness to contact me because sometimes they are on my mind but I get busy and then it’s too late to contact them. These women not only think of me, but think of my entire family, and often pray for my husband in his various roles of responsibilities.

Sometimes, when we are together, I get teased about being “just a baby” at 52. Some of their spiritual and practical advice for my life are: 1) remain steadfast in the faith; 2) stay positive and do not spend time thinking about things opposite of who I am; 3) reserve energy for my Christian journey and spiritual endeavors to bring glory to God; 4) and they lovingly remind me of my roles as a daughter of God, a mother, a grandmother and especially a minister’s wife. Unfortunately ministers’ reputations can be ruined by their wives’ online and offline behavior.

One impactful sister is closer to my age, Dr. Phoebe R. Stubblefield. She helps me understand her duties and responsibilities as an Forensic Anthropologist. Her efforts and patience are awesome while I try thinking on her intellectual level. Seriously, she is “down to earth” and is very humble about her secular achievements. I am really intrigue with getting information and knowledge first hand versus watching Forensics shows.

We have one impactful sister who lives in another country but diligently sends prayers, thoughts and love our way. For example, last Sunday she sent the following message: “Hi sis Tangie, I hope u and bro Felton are doing well, also the rest of your family. As we enter the last 2 weeks of 2019, may u all be safe and enjoy ur family times. I pray 2020 will bring for both of u especially great health and a wholesome fully functional mind. I believe with those u can achieve anything. May the God we serve continue to grant u both the desire to carry out the work of His Son. Blessed holidays and prosperity and wealth in the new year.”

I pray that Felton and my 2020 schedules allow us to visit our sister in her country.
