The Temple of the Holy Spirit

“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy [Spirit] which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” – I Corinthians 6:19-20

Vonda Frazier is one of my spiritual mentors, encourager and nutritionist. She is a Certified Nutrition and Wellness Consultant and received her certification from the American Fitness Professionals & Associates (AFPA). She is also a Certified Personal Trainer with the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

In 2004, she was diagnosed with Lupus, an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks healthy tissue. With the majority of her organs under attack, she was forced daily to take over 15 prescribed medications. However, she knew it was time to become her own advocate when her health declined, and she gained 100 pounds within six years.

She prayed, studied and listened to medical professionals who convinced her that she could reverse her illness. How? By practicing herbal medicine, exploring supplements, discovering the power of organic whole foods, and exercising to stay fit as possible. After two years, Vonda went from walking with a cane from pain and exhaustion, to running her first 5K race in 40 minutes in 2012.

By God’s grace and her diligence in doing what was best for the temple of the Holy Spirit, her illness was reversed.

Vonda has been a practicing herbalist since 2004, and focuses on general wellness, health maintenance, recovery and fitness. Her experience fueled the current passion she holds today to learn and share with others how to recover and maintain good health like Daniel in the Book of Daniel 1:12-16. She believes a plant-based diet is one of the keys to a healthier you. She is enthusiastic about promoting healthy eating habits and exercising. For example, she volunteer to teach women at various congregations how to cook healthy meals, and she makes presentations at health fairs and other events. Vonda spoke in 2017 at Gainesville Church of Christ Ladies Day Program on the topic “Sisters, Our Bodies are the Temple of the Holy Spirit.” I, as well as others, are more aware of caring for the Temple of the Holy Spirit.

In 2000, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Networking from Strayer University. Vonda and her husband, Joe, have four adult children.

“And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the se; into your hand are they delivered. Every moving thing that lieth shall be meat for you; even as the green herbs have, I give you all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.” — Genesis 9:2-3

“And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary; and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.” — Ezekiel 47:12

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore, he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.” –Daniel 1:8
