In Memory of Our Mother, Lillie Mae Ware Washington

Exactly two years ago today in Montgomery Alabama, my siblings and I laid our mother to rest. November 05, 2017 – November 11, 2017 was the most painful week of our lives. The pain has not ceased, but by God’s grace, we are managing with the loss of our beautiful and loving mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, all siblings, an eleven-month old great granddaughter, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and acquaintances.

Our mother struggled financially to care for us when she became a single mother; however, she never abandoned her six children regardless of how difficult things got. She supported us by working two jobs for many years to ensure we had basic necessities in life: food, clothing and shelter; and we were content ~ I Timothy 6:8. She was our support system from childhood until her death, and is truly missed. After we all were adults, she took on the responsibilities of raising her two-year old grandson, Reginald.

When our mother was diagnosed with Dementia, our eldest sister, Kristy, immediately moved mother into her home despite having a full-time job and a family of her own. Kristy refused for years to put mother in a nursing home. However, during the last stages of Dementia, we had no choice but to make a difficult decision to put her in a nursing home for specialized medical care.

Kristy, Reggie, Patrick, Kimberly, Byron, Reginald and I will cherish her memories and the genuine love she had for us. Mother’s memories will also be cherished by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family members, friends and acquaintances.
